RE: From Atlantica WIkia

Note: Im replying here so i know you will see this.

It has been mentioned before (Especially not long after AOW was launched) on the Atlantica forums and both websites main contributors didn't want to merge. Apart from the fact a merge would be more effort than creating the content thats lacking on one website, i personally don't think Wikia's contents is upto the same quality standard that AOW's contents is. While you would expect me to say AOW is better than Wikia, i would also state that Atlantica-DB is the best Fan made Atlantica Website.

Unlike Wikia, AOW is always updated when NDoors makes major changes. For example all item names on AOW use the current naming format, on Wikia however you still have Life Potion (Low) instead of Life Potion (I), as well as this Wikia still has items which no longer exist in Atlantica. While monster drops on AOW may never be 100% perfect since with each patch NDoors seems to modify them sometimes without even writing it in a changelog, the other content should generally be 100% uptodate.

AOW uses Semantics to make editing easier, so by adding a new item to the wiki and filling its materials section, after the next semantics update(Every 24 hours, you can hit the "Refresh" tab to manualy update a page) all of the materials that the new item use would then have that new item in there "Craftable Items" section. Other things are done in a simmiler way, which means that if NDoors removes an item from Altantica then less work needs to be done on AOW to remove it from other pages than with Wikia.

AOW's historically always had less people contributing contents than Wikia, but at the same time AOW's always had more contents added per day(Total Pages/Time). There is generally contributions on AOW every 1-2 weeks at the very least and i check the changes made each day.

AOW is always looking for good contributors to join the Light Side!(AOW's theme is lighter :P) --Stucuk 14:50, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

For me, it would actually be no problem to join this community, although I'd need some time to get used to new templates etc. It's not quite fun to nearly be the only contributor for a whole website :s. I'll look around here a bit and would make a list, what I would change.
Some things I already noticed, such as the skill pages, which look really ugly in my eyes, because I can't see the actual information fast. I had worked out a template on the wikia, which creates a skill table out of given start and increment values for up to 4 effects. (source). Maybe you can have a look at it.
Furthermore, I heared, that quests informations (especially quest chains) are better written in wikia. Maybe I could "copy" this content. Btw, is it possible, to use the information of the Atlantica-db (of course with mentioning its source) ?

I know what you mean about being alone, for the start of AOWs life(Which continued months into 2009) i was the only person who contributed to AOW, definatly not motivating.

Wikia sais Dafoe created that template, i assume you mean this template. Technically the skill tables on AOW are abandoned since Atlantica Online Players nolonger exists (Altantica-db is its successor), i use to update AOW's tables from AOP (With the owners permission) but with Atlantica-db it wouldn't be as easy (Id have to make an application that can extract the information from the HTML page). I have never used the skill tables myself in the game, so i personaly don't know the best layout for users. Basically im perfectly fine with modifying them.

What do you mean by "quests informations"? Wikia has not rearly got any quest information except in some tables, there is no information like what the answer is to a question, etc in the tables. Id prefer that content was not copied from Wikia unless it was your own work. More information is always welcomed, but copying and pasting from another website is not. The actual Quest Chain pages on AOW(I.E Sea Palace Quest) could be modified to include things like Experience/Rewards if you want?

If you want to use information from Atlantica-db you would have to ask its creator "Muwing" for permission. At the least AOW has permission to use there skill table information.

Im looking forward to reading your list. Btw some of the main templates are protected (I.E the Template:Equipmentinfo template) to prevent people from modifying major templates, so if you need a protected template modified just ask. --Stucuk 16:16, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
Hehe, you're right with the template.
To the quest information: I personally like the way, quest chains are written in the wikia. The only content the information you need. Indeed, some details should be added, such as answers to questions, but the way it's made here in AOW is bit too "complicated", because you will need to click each single quest pages, to get the information. Furthermore, some quests are missing. So long,--Lakastra 16:29, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
Is This better? Unfortunatly making the Rewards apear in the table would require more work (Basically semantics doesn't like images as properties). Im up for making rewards + the reward image show up on the tables if you want it.

Btw could you do me a favor and try loggin into This forum i setup with your wiki login? I found an old PHPBB3 Mod thing which lets you use mediawiki's user database for logins(Didn't take much modifying to make it compatible with the latest version). I personally hate talk pages as they aren't as easy as a forum to read --Stucuk 00:43, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
EDIT: Do you think This Layout is better than the current one? --Stucuk 01:24, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Quests

This new layout looks much better than the old one, I think. Is it possible to sum up the gained experience and gold (maybe even the item rewards) or would that be too much work? I viewed the source of the Beginner Quest, discovering the function/template. Is there any good help, which I could read about its functionality? Btw, I tried to log in to the forum, but it prints out:

Maybe this helps to find the error, if there is any. So long, --Lakastra 10:17, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Semantic Mediawiki's official site is the place that has the most information on SMW. Using the Semantics Result Formats "Sum", you can make queries to add parameters together. AOW only has the maths part of the Semantics Result Format installed.

I have found the thing that compares passwords in mediawiki and applied it to the PHPBB3 Auth script. Hopefully it will work perfect now. --Stucuk 12:46, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
Edit: You could use the following to return the total gold(The Gold template isn't needed):

Example: 4,500g
